You'll often hear dr Kobus Neethling speak about whole-brain thinking.
It is a fascinating topic and something that we all can attain with some practise.

But what is the big deal? We’ve made decisions all our lives, why change what’s working!

The thing about choices is that we (obviously) make choices according to what makes sense to us as the best option in a particular situation.
However, how can we be sure that we’ve taken all options into account?

Bear with me -

If you are comfortable in the R2 quadrant, others’ opinions about what you choose are very important to you.
Does the opinion of others bring you to the best possible choice for YOU?
Maybe, maybe not.

If you are comfortable in the tried-and-tested L2 quadrant, you may tend to fall back on solutions that have worked for you in the past.
Does using old solutions give you an edge or set you apart in a crowd?
Maybe, maybe not.

If we can manage to harness the strengths of all four brain quadrants, carefully considering every alternative they provide, before making a final decision, different options may very well come to light.

For example, in R1 our imagination is unchained and dreams of all sizes are born, some may be quite majestic. In R2 we are nudged to discuss your plans with others, brainstorming and seeking advice.
L2 will help us make a to-do list and start structuring plans to make ideas come to fruition, and L1 will help drive us towards making a choice based of facts.

To-and-fro we’ll go through the quadrants until, after all’s been considered, we make our informed decision.

And even though we make our final decision from our preferred thinking quadrant(s), we can rest assured that we have done the work to make the best possible, thought-through and most creative choice.
