Confession time: I never used to place enough value on this NBI gem - the NBI Parenting Style profile!
I admit that I initially simply assumed that my NBI Adult and NBI Parenting Style profile would be the same, why wouldn’t they be?
But it turns out they’re not the same at all!
So I started offering clients the addition of a NBI Parenting Style profile when they did their NBI Adult profile with me, and lo and behold, differences in Adult and Parenting profiles weren’t scarce at all!
Which brings us to the obvious question - why the difference?
How is it possible that a L1 black-and-white adult can be an emotional R2 parent, or a relaxed R2 adult have a super-strict parenting style?
The answer lies in the role we fulfill as parents, a role that is greatly influenced by our experiences, our moral code, our own upbringing and influences of our own family life as children and young adults, by the goals and dreams we have for ourselves as parents and for our children etc.
Maybe you’ve experienced yourself as acting unexpectedly different to your adult profile.
Just take a step back and evaluate the situation - does it relate to your family and children, are your perhaps operating from your parenting style at that moment?
It may just add some clarity to our behaviour.
